Altered Art

Hey all!

Way back when, I know ABUgames used to sell altered art cards (and that Liliana of the Veil WAS WORTH the $200!!! I swear it), but after I came back to the game I couldn't find the altered art section anywhere...

For curiosity (and EDH), I was wondering if anybody could help me find a new go-to card-alterer. If all else fails, I can do my best to get ahold of a local artist, but the most I've seen on his alters are basically just pen-work.

CardKitty is the big one, but there are a few others. A quick Google search for MTG alters will give you a few sites.

I would check out a few major events in your locale (if there are any). Alterists generally attend those events to do commission work.

if its for for casual edh, there is some foil full art proxies (fake cards) of all the fetches and duals and shocks and other big hitters like Tarmogoyf and the good elspeth, they are all 10$ a piece on amazon,

also check out claarbar studios on FB he does amazing alters as seen on my liliana here https://www.facebook.com/ClaarBar

Sadly that one won't be legal in most sanctioned events because it obscures the rules text, but it LOOKS absolutely awesome.

Ha yes, but i planned ahead I have an extra set of liliana's for if my cool set gets shot down (which it has before) but still get to use it at fnm where its a little bit more relaxed, any alters get them done by that guy, its perfectly seamless, you have to take it out of sleeve to see paint strokes

my mother-in-law hooked me up with a painter (a really REALLY good one). I am discussing with him on getting my 4x Deathrite Shaman s done up. I sent him some junk rares to practice on. He doesnt know how much to charge (if at all) for altering cards. If he does good work, I am going to give him 100 bucks for the shamans. Then I will tell him how lucrative it could be.

For an artist, they love finding out that there is work in the local area that pays some of the bills. The dude is located in Phoenix, AZ. If he is good, I will see if I can hook you guys up with his info. I wont know until after the holiday.

I also joked with him about getting a life sized painting of me looking all regal and shit. Like those old paintings of english nobles and counts. I thought it would be funny.

ryuzaki32667 if you go to GP's and the like, artists at the event (namely the card's artist) will do alters, normally around 20$ each. steave argyle's alters. I got a lili and drs altered by him (and a section of a blank playmat, and others there added to it).

gnarlicide I would love to have a painting of myself done like that, subzeriously, just not like in the buff or anything of the sort.

Just prop a huge ass painting of myself in the living room and watch the reactions of visitors.

Aww Yisss.

CW For real. I was thinking like maybe some tore up battle field looking background, and me standing, looking all ripped and shit. With my foot planted on the head of a dead Kodiak. and me holding a long musket with a bayonet.

Something really brutal that I would have to stand and pose for a while with. just to say I did.

Maybe I would go the extra mile and tell the guy to "paint me like one of your french girls."

I really need to call him when I get my tax money in... the set of Goyfs can wait.

gnarlicide, I was thinking more of a "Royal" looking portrait, like a crown, and robes, and a throne.

Imagine like a throne-ish looking seat (not too wide or too tall) (also dem arm rests) at its side on a pile of gold with some jewels and such scattered around the pile while you sit with your legs dangling from the side of the chair looking oh-so bored holding like a glass (full of Dr Pepper).

Yeah, you wont even have to explain it to your buds, when they ask just give em a "sup" glance and shrug.

I wish I had the painting materials and canvas to do something like that.

CW... Nice. I dig that idea. If anything, I think I might just go with the victorian era noble type painting or a civil war era general type painting. Those always looked regal and badass.
