Dave and admas are the ones who bought it. No details of how much they paid for it.

I'm gonna guess that collector booster prices will crash... and singles will likely creep up because a lot fewer packs are gonna get cracked now.

I’m here for the long stretch of treachery, betrayal, and potential murder that has to follow that thing. If there isn’t any, I feel like it’d sorta be a flavor fail....it should at least get lost once...

They should find a volcano they can throw it into and do it. You have a chance to do the funniest, most thematic thing ever.

SpammyV and also get a lesson in just how not-unreasonable it was for what’s-his-name to decide against throwing the ring into the volcano ;p

I was talking to to someone in my group about this, and they had an interesting idea: the new owner could as the Tolkien estate if they would accept it as a donation.

I bet they are just dreaming up new ways to do this exact thing again. Maybe:

A sword in the stone card where one is Excalibur free

Indiana Jones where there are like 20 fake holy grails and one legit one

Thanos' sparkly hand gem thingies

The Green Destiny sword (that can still be defeated by a stick)

Neo, the matrix, the card

Really high miticlorian (I refuse to look up the spelling of this) count, the card

Just kidding : ) Honestly, if this whole thing taught me anything it's that these kinds of lottery cards are just not for me. The reality was that there was a 0% chance to open the ring even if I had bought packs, and that made me realize that these things aren't a wild goose chase, they are a wild bigfoot chase.

I don't know about anyone else, but I totally expect Wizards to do this again. They're probably kicking themselves for not making a unique Tardis or sonic screwdriver for Dr. Who. I do suspect that no other release will quite live up to the hype of The One Ring. Lord of the Rings is on a tier of popularity, influence and cultural importance higher than most other franchises, and I don't see WotC getting the rights to do Star Wars anytime soon.

Oh well, at least this kind of thing should drive down single's prices.

I expect they’ll do it a few more times, to an absolute absence of fanfare (because of the point made above), and then they’ll just sort of not do it again for at least fifteen years.
