Shadowborn Apostle + Rakdos, Lord of Riots

Deck Help forum

Hey all,

I'm making a Shadowborn Apostle deck (Shadowbornapalooza) and I was wondering if you could use the apostle's sacrifice ability to put Rakdos, Lord of Riots on the field without first dealing damage to an opponent.

Putting something on the battlefield isn't the same as casting, correct?

Thanks!

Yes, you can. You aren't casting, so you don't have to have caused damage that turn.

You are correct. Rakdos, Lord of Riots only states you can't cast him, but placing him on the battlefield is different from casting him. As an added bonus, his ability is still useable.

Yes you are correct. As you have noticed, Rakdos, Lord of Riots merely says you can't cast him unless the condition has been met. That means that getting him onto the battlefield in other ways, such as reanimation or through Shadowborn Apostle 's effect, is entirely legitimate. You are not casting Rakdos, and nothing on his card says that he can't enter the battlefield unless an opponent lost life this turn.

That's correct. You can totally do that since Rakdos, Lord of Riots has restrictions on when it can be cast. Any other ways that can put it in play are not affected by this restriction.
