Manlands and landfall together or separate

Commander Deck Help forum

I am in the beginning steps of the 32 deck challenge. I am trying to do different themes, but I have 2 themes that are similar, but not sure how they would play out. One is the man lands - lands that turn into creatures - with Omnath, Locus of Creation as the commander and the other is landfall triggers with Thalia and The Gitrog Monster as the commander. Am I better combining these themes or keeping them separate?

I really like the idea of having your 99 (potentially) work well even without your commander. Having landfall and manlands working together seems cool... and the commander can be a force multiplier on top of that. On an unrelated note: I don’t have a very high win rate, so take this with a grain of salt ;p

So those man lands come in tapped. Making them a crutch to you deck. If you plan to over whelm your opponent with man lands, we'll its just not gonna happen. You see man land require an activation cost. Meaning either you'll be tapping out to cast spells or tapping out to aviate you man lands. Making your deck even more slow (also wide open for attacks). My friend have a man land deck. It's awful. He made it as a board wipe deck. But even with all the wipes. He doesn't win because it's painfully slow.

If you were to combine the two, it would only slowdown your landfall deck idea with tapped man lands. You'll spend all your mana casting spells and never activating your man lands. Or the other way around.

So I suggest scrapping the idea.

However. If there is a land or two that you want in your deck that'd cam swing for damage. Go for it.

I suggest if you want to play man lands Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper is your best choice. Because Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper puts counters on your lands. Increasing the power of your man lands. If some one kills Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper? You still have your man land with 5 +1/+1 counters on it to smash with.

Thank you griffstick and FormOverFunction. Both of you addressed issues that I was feeling as well with both of these. I will probably scrap the man land idea. I might dabble in a few as options, but I will not commit to a whole deck.

Agian thank you.
