Stories Where the Writers Changed the Plot Because the Audience Predicted It (spoilers)

On another internet forum, I saw a user state that they dislike stories in which a writer was clearly building toward a massive plot twist, but then the audience predicted what the twist would be, so the author changed the plot twist to another one that made no sense within the context of the story, simply to spite the audience.

I am not certain how many stories that I have followed in which that phenomenon actually occurred, so I wish to open this discussion to the forum; what are some stories, in any medium, where it appeared as if the writers were building toward a certain plot twist, one that would have made sense, but then changed the twist to one that made no sense, simply to prevent the audience from correctly predicting it? Naturally, such examples shall be spoilers, so please cover your answers with spoiler tags.

Ha, yep that sounds like quite a mess. I mean, the old adage is to write for an audience of one, but more than that, definitely, definitely don't write to spite your audience : ) If the story you have to tell is good, then tell it, I say. Worrying about what people say will just split your vision, and you can end up with the worst thing that a writer can have, a story that you yourself don't enjoy.

I am not sure if your post is geared more towards written content or not, but "the game theorists" youtube channel did an episode recently on this topic.
