Card Upgrade 30 —July 28, 2018

-Entomb

-Gonti, Lord of Luxury

-All is Dust

+Swamp

+Wayfarer’s Bauble

+Ugin, the Spirit Dragon

I never felt quite comfortable with my land count after cutting Bojuka Bog. I was at 35 land, but one was Maze of Ith. So I brought in a Swamp and a Wayfarer’s Bauble for a comfortable 36 land count and to help out early game ramp.

Entomb comes out. While the deck likes the graveyard it isn’t a true reanimator style deck. More of a big black mana deck that can abuse the yard at times.

Gonti comes out. While he’s fun, he rarely grabs anything meaningful. Opponent’s cards generally work better on their side of the table.

All is Dust comes out. I originally ran the card because it felt safer than Ugin. I didn’t like the idea of exiling my own permanents. But I really like that Ugin has some control over what goes and that it can be a repeatable effect. The finesse Ugin offers, especially in clearing up the small stuff, is much more desirable than the sledge hammer that is All is Dust.

Hi,

I am wondering if Royal Assassin could be a good fit in this deck. Looks pretty good as it is though.

NV_1980 While I have some serious nostalgia for a revised edition Royal Assassin I think you’d be better of playing something like No Mercy or Avatar of Woe. We don’t really have any way to abuse it’s ability and killing one creature a turn isn’t too powerful. The other option is to put gave pact effects back into the deck. I moved away from them to lower the curve and draw more cards, but they are still powerful.
