Hey pokemonpasta,

Photoshop can't safe .xcf but I uploaded a TIFF file for you here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IdEOzUpKTM8vHL0U81s62cR1xlkisQck/view?usp=sharing

It should work with GIMP too!

For the Beast Within card: Logicwise I'd say that creatures with base power 0 can't complete the quest since they don't have any base power to multiply. :)

I would like to ask a question about the conspiracy variant: will agitators still "win" after they are out of the game? For instance, in a 4 player game (Friendly fire is allowed and Kaya is not picked), Leovold is killed already and somehow Grenzo accidentally deal the killing blow to Brago. Marchesa can't become the ruler because she's not the one dealt the killing blow to the ruler and grenzo's objective is not fulfilled yet since Marchesa is still alive. Does the Leovold player who's dead already win? or the game carries on until grenzo player kills Marchesa player and Grenzo player wins? What if Marchesa player kills Grenzo player, does anyone win? (but the objective of Marchesa is not fulfilled).

Hey plkjasonhk,

The win condition (defeat role X) is clarified on the Conspiracy Rule Card (see rules tab):

defeat: "You have to survive that player. You are not required to be the player who deals the killing blow to them."

In the case you described the game carries on until either Marchesa or Grenzo wins. (Last man standing wins worst case).

We are working on a review and will optimize Conspiracy soon to be easier to understand.

Hey, just a thought, but you might wanna have a general discord server available to anyone where people can ask questions and get hyped about the format, and perhaps have some patreon-specific channels inside that discord with some other benefits, rather than having a patreon-only discord! I'd love to see and hear about others playing the format and houseruling stuff!

Hi there! Just found this project while searching around for projects that involve the "Kingdom"/"Conspiracy" role aspect!

In reading through the other expansions for this collection, I have a question on some of the mechanics of the "Dungeons & Dragons" expansion cards:

For Blind Eternities, on the 16-20 die roll result, that's happening on a player's combat phase, but it indicates a creature is now attacking the active player? That seems very contrary to all other sorts of combat in Magic games. This is before the active player declares attackers, so if they declare a creature of theirs as attacking a different creature, that creature then cannot block the Demogorgon coming at them? I guess that's kindof like a Two-Headed Giant combat phase, except one partner has a creature attacking the other partner (causing one partner to be both attacking and defending at once)?

And then for the Encounters that are Bounty cards, since those are "personal" cards, does that mean the "your precombat main phase" triggers only happen for that player, and only that player can attack that Encounter? But most Encounter rewards for defeating them are a benefit to all players, so that would seem to incentivize others to help? And Treasure Goblin specifically indicates each player removes time counters from it, which makes more sense if other players could attack it too?

@midnight426 For Blind Eternities I refer to Party Crashers rules: https://scryfall.com/card/ust/92/party-crasher

Encounters from the bounty decks are not personal. There was an errata two years ago :)

@CommanderAdventures Ah, sure; is there a place where the "full" rules (including updates/errata) are documented? I only see the "Quick Rules" cards in the Google Drive folder, and the descriptions here on the page, and neither of those seem to reference the "Bounty cards that are Encounters are not personal" note.

January 29, 2020 11:28 a.m.

@midnight426 Actually the Quick Rules #2 card states that only cards with the Type "bounty" are personal. Encounters, altough they may be within the bounty deck, don't have the bounty type. So they go into the quest log zone :)

Does someone have any experience with playing the Conspiracy variant in a limited environment? Like a conspiracy multiplayer cube. Should Bragos starting life total be adjusted to +5? Or is +10 still reasonable, since you usually have 20 life in limited?

Been keeping up with this for awhile and want to try it out but getting all of this to print will be tough. Have you guys thought of trying to get an app for Android, IOS, and Windows store? That way we could virtually play this.

Hey, I enjoy the format and have played it at our local playgroup a few times. my only criticism is the number of words on a lot of the card makes the text a bit too small for a standard card and really leads to needing oversized cards like the archenemy scheme cards.

Guys, I think you have a great resource here. I tried the base game only, but the playgroup disliked it and after a few rounds we collectively ignored the quests, which was a bummer. AFter I provided the feedback, you said that the base game is not the best way to first experience the Commander Adventures, though at this point, I have forgotten what it was.

Can you please tell me which sets do you recommend for a first game in Commander Adventures? If it is something other than the base set, do I still need the base set in addition to anything else or are the modules standalone?

February 13, 2020 4:53 a.m.

@Noobincube: Its a deriviation of the Kingdom format. Should work in cube too!

@yeckit: No plans yet as our core team consits of two people who are pretty busy with work / university as of now.

@joystickgenie: Yeah, if we could print them ourselves we would put them on oversized cards. We tried to get a better balance between words on cards and a degree of fun complexity in our latest release of Planechase.

@Boza: The main game should be played with D&D, Ignition and Essential expansions since we fixed many issues with these like player incentives to do objectives actively & a more immersive approach. If you want to get a quick start with the best elements we created just go for our latest Planechase Release. It has all core components of CA (Archenemies & Encounters).

Overall my buddy Steeve and I are pretty busy right now. Once we can make some time we want to tackle some important points:

  • Rework Conspiracy Roles (Easier to understand through more user friendly design)
  • Rework the whole Quest system and rerelease a optimized version of it. (We have collected tons of feedback and have worked out some great solutions how to make gameplay more enjoyable and fluid)
  • Get the YouTube channel up and running (Format coverage and decklists)
  • Get the Website up and running (should act as a hub for all things EDH formats / variants)
  • Resume work on Horde-Magic variant & LGS-Point-System

Right now I can really recommend checking out the Planechase release. It's great and I wouldn't change a thing about it. If you want to see it in action check MTGLexicon's twitch stream this saturday! They are playing paper commander with Olivia from the Commander Advisory Group and will also play some Adventures Planechase too!

Thank you for your answer. Cube was fine. The only impression I got, was that the Agitators should maybe have to deal the killing blow to the current Ruler to win, otherwise if you have two agitators in game, they just win to easy in my opinion. Most of the games, they just ganged up on Brago and the other players had problems stopping them.

February 15, 2020 6:44 p.m.

Noobincube Well if you play with 4 players you won't know that since you deal out four out of five roles. The only role that's always there is the King. One role won't be used so there can be only one Agitator.

But generally we encourage trying own rules. Feel free to adapt them. :)

Has anyone gotten these off of MPC? Assuming the copyright isn’t an issue it seems like they’d be perfect to print these.

What are the differences between Expansion: Ignition and Planechase 2020? And if there are differences, could you separate them so we don't double print things?

Thank you very much.

@lcronovt I’ve looked over it, and there are some differences.

  • Removed "or abandons this plane" from all ruling texts.

Encounters

  • The Sliver Queen bounty is changed to "All players win the Game"

Mythic planes

  • Meditation Realm renamed to Bolas's Lair, it's Plane changed to Meditation Realm
  • Implicit Maze down-shifted to rare
  • Removed Planes: Orazca, Golden City and Naktamun, Cursed City, Where Giants Tread (Kylem)
  • New Plane: Valor's Reach (Kylem)

Rare planes

  • Tormentor's Lair up-shifted to mythic
  • Terisiare Battleground: New art
  • Removed Planes: Leechinfested Quagmire (Shadowmoor), Vivid Merrow Spring (Lorwyn), Fiery Canals of Brass (Wildfire), X's Operating Base (Bablovia)
  • New Planes: Shrine of the Three Wise Spirits (Alara), Throne of the Deceiver (Ravnica, during WAR story time)

Uncommon planes

  • Removed Planes: Veiled World (Equilor), Bounty Hunter Bay (Ixalan), Haunted Ship Cemetary (Ixalan), Temple of the Tide Star (Kamigawa), Old Lady of Kessig (Innistrad), Inventor's Fair (Kaladesh)
  • New Planes: Lumengrid (New Phyrexia), Arid Steppes of Tarkir (Tarkir), High and Dry (Ixalan), Gingerbread Cottage (Eldraine), Kindred Village (Lorwyn)
  • Dire Fleet Crew: Removed the Token name. It now works with plain Pirate tokens, instead of "Dire Fleet Pirate" tokens.
  • Sanctum's Gate: New art
  • Down-shifted to common: Thorn Forest Cliff
  • Dormant Morass: Creates regular 1/1 colorless Sliver tokens instead of green ones with ruling text on them. The additional ruling moved from the token to a static ability on the Plane.

Common planes

  • Up-shifted to uncommon: Colossal Flora of Pyrulea, Bamboo Mire
  • New Planes: Untouched Paradise (Dominaria), Dreampod Grove (Fabacin)
  • The Ravnica Guilds don’t grant the Planechaser Role. Their quest-like abilities are removed.
  • Lush Forest of Truga: Updated Proliferate reminder text
  • An-Havva Inn: New art
  • Removed Plane: Gossip Emporium

Phenomena

  • To Choose is to Renounce: New art

Oh and: Aether Passage (Blind Eternities): Chaos ability ruling text changed from "two insanity counters" to "two or more insanity counters". This prevents shenanigans with proliferate: Like proliferate while the ability is on the stack, so that you get a third counter on resolution and therefore don’t trigger the part guarded by the "intervening if".

March 11, 2020 6:32 p.m.

@lcronovt I think luziferius got all the changes. (Thanks bud!)

Most changes were made with people only playing the "planechase" variant in mind, leaving out quest-system related stuff.

This set aims to be "Commander Adventures Light" and does pretty well for playgroups who don't want to immediately dive into our complex quest system.

Similar overhauls are planned for the quest system itself in order to reduce complexity and improve flow of play.

@CommanderAdventures No problem^^.

I have a question about a new Plane: Is the lack of interaction between Lumengrid and e.g. Reliquary Tower intentional?

Lumengrid lets every player draw cards to have seven in hand during their upkeep and has "Each player's maximum hand size is reduced to one.". As far as I can tell, a card like Reliquary Tower wins (just like tower wins against Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur) and lets the player keep their hand, which is a massive, maybe even game winning advantage. Imho, Lumengrid should read "Each player's maximum hand size is one." (or "is set to one"). That way, it sets a value like Reliquary Tower, therefore wins over the tower by ability timestamp. That change puts everyone on equal grounds.

In our group, almost everyone who can slot in a colorless land runs a Reliquary Tower, so we’d run into this frequently.

March 25, 2020 3:40 p.m.

Hey luziferius,

I don't see where the Reliquary-Owner has a massive advantage.

Yes that player has infinite hand size, but they also do not draw as much more new cards as other players do, since Lumingrid just refills to seven.

The only real advantage is that the reliquary player may still be able to cast instants / flash cards during other players turn as they keep their hands, but suffers from less options in most scenarios during their own turn since all other players can fetch through their top cards for the best answers.

Lumingrid isn't a plane you want to stick around for too long anyways. Players should be alerted to planeswalk away asap. (I also recommend to use the remaining card slot to keep some sort of card draw around for when the group walks away) ;)

The tiff file does not seem to have retained any of the necessary layers to be edited with GIMP. Was that intentional?
