Bad results aren't always bad ~ 6th FNM 13/05 —May 15, 2016

Well guys, I got 6th on FNM 13/05.

You might think that it isn't a bad colocation, but yes, it's bad when there were only 7 players.

But that don't make me sad at all, because it showed me that my deck need improvments.

My first match was a 2-0 against a BW Eldrazi.

Game one was not so difficult, combining too much early pressure with 1 anguished unmaking that he needed to use.

On game 2 my deck didn't run out of gas as I played 3 Abbots and 2 Sin Prodders, so I kept casting creatures and he couldn't remove all of them. Also, on game 2 my sided Fiery Impulse Removed one Shambling Vent, that helped a lot!

~~

Second match, 0-2 Bant CoCo

My second match was against the same guy I played the FNM final match on 29/04. As my deck was the only one that defeated that guy, he prepared a sideboard very strong against red, with many life gain sources.

On game one he used 2 CoCo and 3 Casts on Bounding Krasis, he finished me so fast that I couldn't even hit him.

On game two he sided up lots of lifegain and when I took him to 7 life, hoping to finish him with burns, he played an Ally that gives lifelink to all his creatures.

~~

Third match, 0-2 GR ramp

Well, my worst enemy.

I really couldn't do nothing against him, in both games.

He had, on main board, 4 Return of Kozilek, 4 Jaddi Offshoot, 2 Chandra and 2 Dragonlord Atarka.

Too much wipe.

Also, he used some dorks toghether with the ramp spells, making it possible for him to cast Chandras and World Breakers on turn 4 or 5.

lost :c

~~

To improve my deck against Bant CoCO, I pretend to make it faster, as he don't have 1-drop spells.

To improve against Ramp, I'm oppened for suggestions!

at this moment, the changes on mainboard are:

-3 Tormenting Voice

-1 Scab Clan Berserker

+1 Village Messenger

+1 Reckless Bushwhacker

+2 Titan's Strength

Like the deck still! Happy to hear you did well at FNM. I personally took out the Ravenous Bloodseeker's and replaced them with 1 Falkenrath Gorger and 2 Goldnight Castigator's. But I think thats just personal preference.

Also, I stumbled across this 5th Place States Toronto Mono-Red Aggro. A cool version of Mono Red

Going to play my RDW tonight at FNM.

Have you thought about adding Pyromancer's Goggles?

snarlmkiv goggles in mono red aggro!? U must be on drugs... Its like way too expensive and way too slow. You could add it in in a higher curve deck maybe. I personally think the card is a bit overrated.

Exactly the reason why I asked him about his thoughts on adding Goggles because I wanted some opinions on Pyromancer's Goggles' spot in RDW's like this one rubenjr

snarlmkiv, I know copying an Exquisite Firecraft sounds great, but if you have 5 mountains on battlefield it means that you are in a very late game and you didn't win yet. That's Bad

It's not common for this deck to reach the 5th land, for many reasons:

Only 18 lands on deck

Discarding lands as costs of effects

Send to grave by opponent on Sin Prodder Trigger

So, the googles will help you on about 20% of the games while it will be a dead card on the other 80%

Maybe, if you want, you could test it, playing with 2 copies on sideboard to see how it goes. It's always possible to discard it as fuel for an axe in those games you won't cast it..

If you try it, please tell me (:

snarlmkiv, have you made any tests with googles? Let me know!

NestorCoelho Yes I have. They are hit or miss. As it turns out, you have a bigger shot of activating dupe spells with Harness the Storm than Pyromancer's Goggles especially if you're running aggro.

I ran with two of them and in the 5 games that I played. They only shined in two games.(using my deck

)

The slots for the goggles are better off with either more aggro creatures or more aggro spells.

Hey man! I'm currently building this deck cuz it seems really fun to play. Good job!

What are your thoughts about Pia and Kiran Nalaar and Ravenous Bloodseeker in this deck? Do you think they could find a spot here?

Do you think that Pia isn't viable because of the amount of lands in this deck, because it is slow, or it may be a thing?

I'm going to go to my first grand prix soon and am thinking about RDW, vampires or werewolves. I really want to play Sin Prodder and Scab-Clan Berserker, so this deck looks pretty nice.

How competitive do you think this deck is? Could it go to a GP day 2 in the current meta? Unfortunately my local meta is completely filled with control, so I can hardly get any reliable test results from playing it myself beforehand :/
