Thursday Night Tournament —Jan. 17, 2014

3-2 at tonight's tournament, lost to creature removal, any inputs on how to compensate for such control?

You may want to add Dragon Mantle because it only costs one, triggers heroic, draws you a card and gives you a mana sink for fire breathing if you get flooded

Drop the Lightning Strike and use Rubblebelt Maaka solely (hopefully) for the 1 Red for +3+3 blood rush ability. That saves you a 1 dropper. Go 18 mana and drop all all arena athletes and add 2 Firedrinker satyr's. you're trying for the turn 3/4 win, potentilally taking 2 or 4 dmg is not an issue. Maybe drop the shocks for 4 magma jets. it may make you increase your curve to about slightly less than what it is now, but if you're flooded, you should be good. if you're not, it can potentially get a chump blocker out of the way and allow you to scry away from creatures if you have them and get your combat trick cards going.

Excellent Idea SpankiusMonkius i was thinking about that, i see the much needed benefit of that card, i'm not sure about magma jet since it costs 2 but then again it lets me get to my much needed cards. Cbrink23 i did play with Dragon Mantle but i just felt like it was a dead card and i always sided it out, granted it did let me draw a card which was nice, but i rarely get flooded and i'm always playing my mana out to pump out a quick win.

Magma Jet wins games, let me assure you. I crushed Dezani's mono-blue and all it's variations 8/10 with this variation. bye bye Master of the Waves. Outside of statistically unlikely draws (likelihood of cheating), there is next to no way for me to lose against any monoblue deck. Of course this deck generally falls apart against mono black, rakdos, and R/B/W decks. Any lifegain is just about certain doom if they have slowed you up enough. That is why I personally stopped playing my version (similar to yours) of the RDW. It spanked the Monoblue (as you can tell I'm not a fan of blue in any form), but fell apart against a decent creature removal deck. it races wonderfully against Selesnya aggro, gruul decks, unless they land garukk.

Now when I say bye bye Master of the Waves I kill their cloudfin raptors etc. to destroy their devotion, making master of waves a near mute card and i win turn 5 anyway.
