Instead of Dauntless River Marshal you could run Gideon's Lawkeeper for the single mana tap rather than 4 mana. Unless you're looking for that 3/2 creature for fighting off threats.

That's a fair point about Mulldrifter. And I can see where the shroud on Deft Duelist could be offputting. I'm fairly sure you can still Cipher onto a shrouded creature, and Conspire with them, but you are right that you'd be unable to target it. I was just trying to pull creatures off the top of my head.
How would you feel about something like Dauntless River Marshal or Arctic Aven? They seem to fit in with your conditional self-buffing efficient creature base.
