danielgonmar: You need to use double square brackets around the card's name to make the link work - Nine Lives, Resourceful Defense

To answer your question, since Resourceful Defense only moves counters between things you control, the same player has to control both Nine Lives and the Defense in order to use the Defense to move counters off of Nine Lives. If they're controlled by different players, which might be the situation in the original question where things are being moved around with Harmless Offering, then it won't work.

Also, it's much better to post a new question as its own topic rather than respond to a very old one. With the way this site works, adding a new post to a Rules Q&A discussion doesn't move the topic to the top of the list. This topic is about 4 years old, so the only reason I was aware of your comment is because the site auto-subscribed me for notifications on this topic after I originally posted in it. If you had happened to post in a topic where the only people involved in the discussion were no longer active users then no one would have seen your question.

I'm long off Jeggy, I feel like he doesn't help as much as the 15th SB slot. The restriction doesn't come into play very often but when it does I just drop Jeggy all together.

Omg Burning-Tree Emissary into this seems awesome... literally the only reason I haven't been running that card has been because I have been so used to running Jegantha, the Wellspring.

This is preposterous! I love it ahahahahah Also, the fact you can just straight-up play 63 swamps and don't even care makes a really good confusing deck to play around, at least on the first game. Good job man!

Would it be possible to change Horde Magic from a hub to a format? I know that the focus on tokens makes it weird, and maybe not viable, but it's much more of a unique deckbuilding and playing system than a strategy or archetype.

Thanks for these updates and new inclusions!

Final Preparations

Sorcery

Draw two cards. Put a +1/+1 counter on each of up to two target creatures.

Fateful hour - If you have five or less life, for each of up to two creatures, put a vigilance counter or a hexproof counter on that creature.

"Once we step down, there's no way to get back. We can only go forward. Make sure you have everything you need and nothing you don't."

My take on Grimmsnarl Show

Create a juggler. Bonus points if it's a goblin. More bonus points if it's actually a group of goblins.

Last_Laugh Double Trigger has been added. I'm going to review it for usage consistency once it's been up for a while, to make sure it's being applied correctly.

000CBomb000 I should be able to look into the 93/94 decks later this week. The last four weeks have been insane for me, but once I get everything in my life finished and locked in, I should have plenty of time.

Femme_Fatale on Small Update: New Formats, New …

A small update today. The two new formats are Dandan and Judge's Tower. The new hub is "Shared Deck".

Both Dandan and Judge's Tower are casual centric formats with no deckbuilding requirements, rules or restrictions. They center their gameplay around all players drawing and playing their cards from a central deck. No other deck is included.

Dandan

Dandan is a 1v1 format spurred on from the card of the same name Dandan. Traditionally the deck's only wincon was Dandan and both players fought to find it first and be the one to control it. In a sense, the spirit of the format is creating new and interesting interactions when there is only one deck and both players are striving for the same win condition(s).

Judge's Tower

Judge's Tower many of you will probably be more familiar with. It is a multiplayer format focused around testing each player's knowledge of the game rules. A player will lose the game if they fail to make a correct play or miss a triggered ability, PROVIDED that another player called them out on their missplay or missed trigger. If they player that did the calling out was themselves wrong, then they lose instead. The cards in a Judge's Tower deck are chosen because they interact with the rules in a unique way or cause the player to be constantly focusing on when they can use an ability. There are various versions of how this works but players typically have infinite life and infinite mana. All cards must be played if able as soon as possible and if you can activate an ability of a card you must do so.

Shared Deck

As for the hub, "Shared Deck" is exactly what both Dandan and Judge's Tower are. However if you want to make one of these decks in a constructed format, the Shared Deck hub will let you label that constructed deck as Dandan or Judge's Tower. This hub will also encompass any future formats that utilize a singular shared deck across all players.

I have been away from magic for a bit and just popped back in and discovered the card Break Out. It just seems really really nice for Aggro decks or any small zoo deck.

My first thought is to compare this card to Collected Company... the sorcery speed kinda gets offset by giving a 2MV creature haste and can still just put higher mana value creatures like Ghor-Clan Rampager in hand.

Has anybody been trying out this card? It just seems pretty nutty to me.

Final Communion

Sorcery

Tap any number of untapped creatures you control and put a stun counter on them. For each creature tapped this way, gain life equal to twice that creatures power.

Fateful hour - If you have 5 or less life, take an extra turn after this one.

After setting up barricades at the chapel doors, all they could do was pray.

I believe the lifegain should happen before fateful hour checks to see if you have 5 or less life which is how the card is intended, taking an extra turn is a pretty big effect so I was aiming for a card that does an extra turn OR something else rather than both if fateful hour is online.

Lets see another card with fateful hour.

I would say the main thing you should focus on is drastically lowering your mana curve. At the moment you only have 3 cards costing 1 mana, which means you’re almost-always starting a full turn behind the opponent. Added to this, 19 lands can’t reliably get to 3-lands, which is what the vast majority of your spells cost. Even if you can reach 3 lands, only being able to cast 1 spell a turn is pretty slow/durdly.

Assuming you have 20 lands, and playing this midrange strategy, I would suggest you want around 12 1-mana cards, 20 2-mana cards, and 8 3-mana cards.

WhaleMaster30: I appreciate the input. The average cmc of the deck being 3.17 it would be nice to bring some of that down but the problem would be deciding what to cut without compromising the strategy too much. If I could figure out what to remove I’ld add more ramp with either rocks, dorks or ramp spells to offset some of the higher cost cards. Problem is removing almost anything messes with the game plan lol. And I do wanna keep the deck winning through just discarding or playing lands. Not wanting infinite combos or anything. This is a more casual deck even though it does have the gitrog/dakmoor combo in it. That’s just to keep recurring the land to deal more damage.

seshiro_of_the_orochi on Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant

Absolutely, and due to its haste, returning Chiss to end in main 2 is not a problem at all. But I'm not sure if I accidentally used it at instant speed in said game :D

WhaleMaster30 on Lands Don’t Matter…They Kill

I'd definitely stick with soul of windgrace, I like how you tuned the deck specifically to profit off of discarding lands. Seems like a solid and fun gameplan, but keeping the ability to discard lands for different effects in the command zone seems like a good idea. Lord windgrace would be great in the 99 though. The only thing I would recommend is adding prismatic vista to the lands, and maybe trying to find cheaper CMC cards to keep the mana curve further down. In my tatyova deck, I found that older versions of the deck had too many high end win more cards, and had a hard time getting on its feet with a slow hand.

awesomedude20 on Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant

seshiro_of_the_orochi Like, it's not NOT useful, a lot of people might hang onto removal until you swing at them with Chiss-Goria, in which case being able to return him to hand would be great. And since it's a land, you can easily just slot out a Mountain or something, really no loss, especially in a monocolor deck like this.

Dolghan's Edict of Desctruction

Legendary Sorcery

Destroy all non creature artifacts and all non creature enchantments your opponents control. When a permanent is destroyed this way, exile it. For each card exiled this way you may create a token that is a copy of it except it is a 3/3 Giant Warrior Creature in addition to its other types.

"True warriors have no needs of boons or trinkets - they need only each other"

Make the Pokemon Grimmsnarl into a card.

FormOverFunction on Diabolic Revelation or Rune-Scarred Demon?

I’m generally going to go with a permanent over a sorcery/instant... like, to a fault. This is likely why I don’t win more than ten games each year, so you may not want to follow my lead.

RiotRunner789 on Diabolic Revelation or Rune-Scarred Demon?

How many times has Diabolic Revelation netted you 3+ cards? Did you win the same or next turn? How many times has it been a dead card or only netted 1 or 2 cards?

7 mana is also a lot for a tutor. Does your deck have decent recursion? Can you play Entomb then Reanimate?

In a vacuum, I'd go with the demon but personally I'd play a mana rock or some synergy piece over expensive tutors.

Ra'lakh, The Dismantler

Legendary Creature - Zombie Giant Wizard

Lifelink

Whenever a zombie you control dies, if it had decayed, you gain 2 life.

When Ra'lakh enters the battlefield, destroy up to X other target creatures and create X 2/2 black zombie creature tokens with decayed.

4/5

Grixis life deck with a zombie under-tribal (only careing about decayed zombies)

Okay, so to make the challenge a bit easier

Make a legendary spell for any of these now-five Giant decks, although I would prefer a non-creature spell because we have some good synergy builds such as artifacts, lands and enchantments.

I'd take warstorm surge potentially over imprisoned in the moon, but thats just me, mainly because you play a creature you deal damage equal to its power to a target, since its demon tribal if you have be'lakor out as well, you deal that creatures power to any 2 targets or have both ability triggers be applied to the same target of your choosing

This looks pretty fine, good job! In the last game I had with my Chiss-Goria, Sanctum of Eternity gained me so much advantage. My dragon had been removed like five times in that game, and even though it was still doable to recast him from the zone, the mana advantage of avoiding command tax changed quite a lot for me in that game.

Hackbrett I am SO sorry that it took me this long to respond! Thank you so much for your kind words words, and I am very happy to learn that someone else built the deck and is seeing success with it.

I am definitely noticing that multiple people are seeing success with Boromir, Warden of the Tower. I think I need to playtest this card more to see if the effect comes into play enough to offset the higher mana cost compared to Selfless Spirit.

Thousand Moons Smithy  Flip is a card that got my attention a while back, although my initial impression was that it felt a bit too "win-more"-ish. Regardless, I am in the process of playtesting it, along with Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Wylie Duke, Atiin Hero and a couple of other cards. I think that Delney, Streetwise Lookout will almost certainly make the list because it is both a tapping outlet AND a token doubler for this deck (although it is a shame that it cannot double Welcoming Vampire and similar cards). However, I still don't know what it will replace. One thing I will say is that long-time "staples" of the deck, such as Paradise Mantle and Springleaf Drum have started to feel less and less essential now that we have so many toys to play with.

I will keep everyone updated in the coming months. Hopefully MH3 gives us some more goodies!

Another thing is that this may not be necessarily your traditional stax, because I want to prioritize having as many enchantments or creatures as possible, in order to be able to counter anything I want. I'll try to put more enchantments/creatures primarily, depending on what kind of stuff I need. I'll definitely put an update on this when I actually decide to update it.
