Nethereon Deckling

I'm a 20 year veteran of the game, with one PTQ under my belt, during the Urza's block. I like to consider myself a good steward of the game - a person who is always willing help, teach, and brainstorm with anyone - rather than some of the baser individuals in the community.

My favorite deck types are Pestilence, Mill and/or Discard, gimmicky combo decks to keep people off guard, Tron variations, Boros Aggro with a twist, and Auras.

If you're playing Monument in modern, you have to play Whitemane Lion. I play the U/W, Bant, and G/W variants, and they all feel underpowered without the lion. When it's about to "go off," during your opponents end step, it's absurd. Since I play the U/W and Bant versions, I run Queller which combos with lion, but that's not the only reason to play it. Whitemane should basically read, "Pay get as many dudes as you can afford, until stopped." If you add this with something like Knotvine Paladin you'll completely blindside your opponent.

After taxes took down a recent SCG event, everyone has been up in arms, trying to find answers to Tron and D-bag Shadow. With that being said, Mirran Crusader is a super busted card in the current meta, considering the vast majority of removal is black (outside of Path and burn).

Can I say how happy I am to see Gaea's Blessing in the deck? It is such a strong card and a great hate card against mill. I have a few Fraying Sanity decks floating around in my meta, and, once they realize I sideboarded this card in, it's GG. Such a great, underutilized card.

I told a Company/Chord deck friend of mine to try it against heavy removal matches ups and he was convinced after it won him his first FNM.

So far, my testing has determined that Zur draws a lot of hate. You may want to consider pillow fort cards like Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, and more protection for your commander, such as Diplomatic Immunity and the staples, i.e. Lightning Greaves/Swiftfoot Boots.

I see Retether on your maybe list. It is a super powerful card, but not without more aura support. A great aura I love with Zura, after you get Godhead,is Invocation of Saint Traft. It is pretty busted. I hope this helps. :)
