Heya! Thank you for helping me figure out what playstyle my commander decks should be! You're great with new players to the format!

Well modern didn't really exist before Innistrad. Modern came out in August and didnt have any major events till later while Ksd came out in September.

Dimir as a deck has Mill, Control, Faeries, Delver/Deaths Shadow as its main options. But due to the way modern is at the moment it isnt a very deep colour pairing.

Drop all of the enchantments. Forge is 9 mana. Drop the walker. Drop the stuffy doll.

If you want a silence lock, then you want to be focusing on that.

For Polymorph, you are probably better using Emrakul, the Aeons Torn as your win con.

Military Inteligence isn't so hot, as it is a 2 mana sorcery speed draw engine, when you don't really need it? Like you aim to blank all their removal by making it inefficient. If your spell gives you 2 1/1s and they spend 1 card killing a token you are up half a card.

Why so many 3 ofs, my gosh. 4 of exists for a reason, my friend.

Aethersphere Harvester doesn't seem good. Your creatures are generally bigger than a 3/5, even with Lifelink.

Chandra, Torch of Defiance or Chandra, Flamecaller seems a must here. They add removal, and can win the game on their own.

TKS seems a bit eh, given how you only have 4 sources to cast him. If you wanted more colourless, you should build like a 3 colour deck, then you could include Reality Smasher as another big threat.

Gonti seems a bit eh, as the format is very synergy based (zombies) or combo based (marvel) and he doesn't seem so hot versus either.

More Magma Spray. Not a fan of harnessed when you can consistantly tick up to 4 energy to kill heart like you can in UR control.

All those ideas are really really bad. You have no way to stop others going off, or protect yourself. You are playing a slow 5 mana enchantment, to make your 1 of token life card interact with your 2 of token generator to gain 2 life per token, not 1. And somehow this will make Reservoir good, as opposed to the fact to do that you would be putting 5 1/1 tokens into play every turn.

You are playing a mana rock as 1 of, so your 2 of BBB card will let you cast spells from their deck, because that is somehow important or valuable, despite the fact their deck might have nothing of use or value in.

Elixir of Immortality to get back the valuable artifacts, as opposed to just making the deck more consistent by just playing more copies of them?

Hedron Archive is vulnerable to artifact hate, and given your wincon is artifacty, what do you think you are likely to see them side in?

Kambal, Consul of Allocation is generally fine, that is an actually decent sideboard card.

Lightmine Field is great for decks that go wide but...they aren't really a thing, and they will very easily play around it because it gives them a choice.

Path to Exile is just solid removal.

Staff is 1 life gain, maybe 2 a turn, for a 3 mana artifact that doesn't put you up any cards.

Those sort of ideas, and this entire deck, is pretty magic christmaslandy when for something like this you need to really have consistency. You are running lots of 1 ofs. Lots of random cute combos. You need to be consistent.

Run 4 copies of your combo, so 4 paradox engine, 4 mirror. Run 24 lands. Run 4 Myr. Run some other mana dorks. Pick 1 game winning spell, and use that. You should be focusing on getting that together, and being able to lock and win the game from there, as opposed to cute combos.

Justify each card in your sideboard.

To be a control deck in modern, you need counters, removal, draw and bombs.

You want 25 lands. Ensure you can draw and play one most turns. Have a good late game. Some of these lands can be man-lands, such as Wandering Fumarole, utility lands such as a 1 or 2 of Desolate Lighthouse, and dual lands, such as Steam Vents, Sulfur Falls.

For counterspells, your bread and butter is Mana Leak. If you can afford it, Cryptic Command is a must play, and if you play fetches so is Logic Knot. Rune Snag can be decent but suffers versus any deck with GY hate. Silumgar's Scorn can be powerful, depending on how you line up your win-condition.

For removal, Lightning Bolt is like, the basis. Electrolyze is pretty decent. If this is budget, Harnessed Lightning can be a good option with some energy production, as it lets you kill big things as needed.

For RU your options for sweepers are Anger of the Gods, Sweltering Suns or going a third colour for Radiant Flames. Anger of the Gods is best in a control deck because of the exile clause.

For draw, there are a few ways you can go. You can keep low to the ground with Ancestral Vision (not very budget), Think Twice or go big with Pull from Tomorrow and similar. I personally quite like Think Twice and Pull from Tomorrow together.

For your creatures, you want something cheap, hard to remove, big and ideally with flash. Sadly none of those exist cheaply. Cryptic Serpent is a good size, doesn't die to bolt or decay/push and can come down cheaply late game. Thundermaw Hellkite and Stormbreath Dragon enable Scorn and end the game quickly but lack the cheapness. Torrential Gearhulk gives you all the value, is big, and flashes in. Etc etc.

My only comment is I think Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is better playing main over Iona, Shield of Emeria, due to the presence of the TNN/Leovald type decks.

First up, bumping doesn't work. And you bumped it less than 3 hours after posting.

Secondly, format?

May 17, 2017 4:27 a.m.

Harnessed Lightning would need a lot to be better than Fatal Push, Path to Exile and Lightning Bolt.

Aethertorch Renegade seems slow and weak.

Architect of the Untamed needs 8 to make 1 6/6 which seems slow. Also token as much more vunerable.

May 15, 2017 5:27 p.m.

A control deck that wants to cast 5-6 drops or be able to cast a 3 drop and hold up counterspell magic with only 22 lands? You want about 24-25

Well the sideboard makes no sense, the lack of Mutavault makes limited sense, the CIPT lands are bad, and you have better options such as Daze, and actual Counterspell over Mana Leak and Daze.

Clout of the Dominus is 1 mana for +1/+1 and shroud, but why do you need that when you can play something like Jitte, that lets you win combats more easily, is reusable, gains life, forces damage in etc.

One of the main issues is how easy you eat Sweepers. Krovikan Mist needs like 3 illusions online to be decent, and then a sweeper comes along and you get 3 for 1ed at least.

I don't think Nivmagus Elemental is where you want to be, when Monastery Swiftspear exists.
