UG is always going to be better with a removal colour, like White, Black or Red. The issue is you have no way to keep stuff off the board which doesn't lose you card advantage. But if you wanna go UG, have you considered one of the following?

1) Bounty of the Luxa. Comes down and gives free mana so you don't have to tap out or draws you a card. Not a horrendous core card for a deck.

2) Nissa, Steward of Elements generates CA and virtual CA pretty quickly and easily.

December 14, 2017 8:02 a.m.

The issue is that it takes your turn 4 play, and turn 4 is when decks want to be doing stuff. And it isn't actually that great versus combo, cause most of them can kill on turn 4. Leyline is risky but it you can mulligan for it hard.

Talk to your players, I would suggest. Work out what they want and what they expect from each theme. Like, the 5 things that I need to know to give more advice are the new archetypes, budget, powerlevel, what pool are we taking from and how you overall theming it?

So the White does add some interesting bits.

You don't get much in the way of vampire creatures worth playing, besides Edgar himself, who provides a lot of pressure, and can act as a lord you can cast from the command zone.

You do however, get access to Sorin who can vomit out vampire tokens, act as an anthem or provide CA. You get access to enchantment hate, and more removal. And you get some cool anthems and stuff.

Way I see it:

Mono Black is a midrangey slow deck with the type being for value as opposed to a focus.

White/Black is a life drainy varient that likes to bleed folks out.

Red/Black is a more aggressive version that wants to keep the combat steps flowing and punishes people for not having creatures to block.

Mardu is a more tokeny type build that wants to go wide and swing in hard.

So I went through the list this morning.

Like, first up I'm not seeing much in the way of stuff that makes me think "exploration". This feels like a low quality modern cube? It doesn't feel like it provides a coherent theme.

The only two clearly signaled archetypes are U/G and W/B. Even then, W/B has a lot of stuff I wouldn't take like Tainted Sigil, because it is a 3 mana gain life card, and just gains life.

I think one issue you have is...this is an 12 person cube. This means you are gonna struggle to have stuff wheel, archetypes are less viable compared to just grabbing value, and if you draft with less than 12 you might never see important archetype enablers.

Secondly, I would push the themes harder in terms of exploration. Like U/W lands as creatures is cool. That can be pushed further. That can cross over into something like U/B lands with cards like Nettlevine Blight or Underworld Connections or Sire of Stagnation that punishes peoples for lands. Then that can cross over into something like a U/R spell slinging Retrace deck, where you can turn excess lands into spells or spell equivalents with Molten Vortex and Flame Jab, which can intresting stuff going along side it such as a G/W Desert deck?

Like, if you want it themed hard, then I would really suggest breaking the idea down into three parts, so for exploration you could have "monsters lurking in the shadows", "new places to explore" and "heroes going exploring" and divide stuff up between them if you get me?

What sort of power level? Is your overall theme still exploration and lands matter?

What are your current archetypes?

Gotta say, as simple as it is, ESZ is one of my fave cards from the set with its "slighty overstated for cost zombie with a downside" and the downside and art working together so well.

December 8, 2017 11:51 a.m.

Its almost as if the set is made to be drafted for fun and not used as some sort of lottery ticket!

Might it be you are spamming random peoples walls with a copy pasted message to get people to look at your deck? Stop doing that.

December 7, 2017 5:02 a.m.

Polupus You also need AEther Vial then.

December 6, 2017 4:54 a.m.

So, basically.

Do you want to be an actual stax deck, denying mana and resources.

Do you want to be an aggro-control deck, denying hand resources and beating in.

Do you want to be a suicide black deck that goes "turn 1, big fuck off black creature off of rituals".

December 4, 2017 11:21 a.m.

Is this a casual deck or meant for actual Legacy?

December 3, 2017 2:39 p.m.

Dark Confidant = Bob

What you confused on, friendo?

December 3, 2017 9:31 a.m.

Like, at the end of the day this deck isn't doing anything powerful.

This looks like a cross between a black prison/stax deck, the gate and suicide black without any of the upsides of any of them? Shizo, Death's Storehouse isn't doing anything besides being a land you can have wasted. You aren't going big enough for Drain Life to be more than just a low quality fireball. And most of your threats line up poorly to the stuff you see now.

My suggestion would be to lean into one of those style more. For stax, I would be dropping stuff like Bob, demon, phyrexian, turning off all your opponents removal, relying on bitterblossom/contamination combined with a card like Black Vise so they can't play spells and are being burnt for 3 or so a turn.

For the gate, you basically go harder on the disruption, jitte, bob and play aggro control without ritual.

For suicide black, you want similar stuff to the gate but with ritual and psudo burn/rapid draw stuff.

Heya.

So getting into Modern can be pretty daunting, same for any older format. The fact is competitive magic will have people metagaming, trying to build the best deck etc, but honestly if you are just wanting to play FNM etc, it doesn't really matter?

If you wanna stay Green and White, I suggest some form of human tribal, leveraging cards like Thraben Inspector, Champion of the Parish, Thalia's Lieutenant, Gather the Townsfolk. It can be cheap, and it can just get free wins as you curve out really well.

An alternative would be more of a zoo/good stuff deck. Fleecemane Lion, Qasali Pridemage, that sort of generically good stuff on a 2-5 curve.

Or a third option would be some sort of cat deck? You really wanna be playing more midrangey with cards like Pride Sovereign being the core.

It looks to me also like you picked up the GW Cats EDH/Commander deck, which is always fun. That can go into just cat goodstuff, equipment or voltron strategies very easily.
