What happens with x costing cards with Goblin Electromancer

My friend had a question about this. He played the card Curse of the Swine and he had the card Goblin Electromancer what happens then

whatever you set x as is reduced by one for example you pay 4 for x then the Goblin Electromancer reduces x to 3

@TheDeckBuilder_mage: Technically, your answer implies that X is determined by payment and that Goblin Electromancer reduces the value of X. This is incorrect.

When you cast a spell with in its mana cost, you declare the value of X as one of the first choices during the casting process (the order being mode, X values, and then targets). Payment of costs is the last step in the casting process. Costs are calculated based on the value declared for X.

To calculate the final casting cost of a spell, you use a formula:
Cost = [mana cost OR alternative cost] + [additional/increased costs] - [cost reductions]

In this case, if you cast Curse of the Swine declaring X=5, your formula will be:
Cost = + 0 - =

Goblin Electromancer reduces the cost of the spell by . It doesn't change the value of X.
