Stasis and Forsaken City Interaction

Asked by Troy242621 8 years ago

  1. If I have Stasis down and I have a Forsaken City untapped, can I tap it for blue mana to pay for Stasis then discard a card to un-tap it in the same upkeep (Both say "At the beginning of Upkeep")?

  2. Conversely, if I have a tapped Forsaken City, can I discard a card to un-tap it BEFORE I have to pay for Stasis? Meaning, if my city is tapped, can I discard and un-tap it to then immediately re-tap it to pay for Stasis?

I checked the rulings and am very new to Magic in general, only played a month.

When you control multiple triggers that are trying to go on the stack at the same time, you get to stack them in whichever order you want. That means that every turn you get to decide whether you resolve the Stasis trigger or the Forsaken City trigger first.

The answer to both of your questions is therefore yes, you can indeed chose to perform those actions in whichever order you prefer and pay to keep Stasis around whether Forsaken City starts your turn as tapped or untapped.
