Sen Triplets Casting Cards from an Opponents Hand

Asked by Orcinbob 9 years ago

According to 903.9 "If mana would be added to a players mana pool of a color that isnt in the color identity of that players commander, that amount of colorless mana is added to that players mana pool instead"

So that means that I can't take an opponent's mountain for forest and use it to produce those kinds of colored mana.

But, how does that work with Celestial Dawn ? Can I use the white mana that is already in my mana pool to play other colored spells from my opponent's hand?

Yes. Celestial Dawn allows you to spend white mana as though it were mana of any color. It doesn't actually change white mana into mana of another color, so it doesn't break the mana rules of the format.

I figured I should ask before my friends think I'm pulling a fast one on them. Thank you!

Sen Triplets

Correct. You can still take and play a Forest of Mountain, but they will only produce colorless mana.

Also correct. Since Celestial Dawn makes all your lands Plains, they all can now produce white mana. Then you can spend that mana as if it were any color, like black or green. Example: you can cast Abrupt Decay from your opponent's hand with Sen Triplets and Celestial Dawn in play.
