Saga Enchantment Question!!!

Asked by mp777 5 years ago

Can you flicker a saga enchantment after the 3rd chapter activates and return the enchantment to your hand or back on the field from exile? Does the 3rd chapter activate?

Once an ability triggers it exists independently of its source. This is reinforced by the gathered rulings on each saga.

4/27/2018: Once a chapter ability has triggered, the ability on the stack won't be affected if the Saga gains or loses counters, or if it leaves the battlefield.

The end result being that when you put the third counter on the saga, the chapter three ability will trigger. If the saga leaves the battlefield before the ability resolves the ability will be unaffected.

714.4. If the number of lore counters on a Saga permanent is greater than or equal to its final chapter number, and it isnt the source of a chapter ability that has triggered but not yet left the stack, that Sagas controller sacrifices it. This state-based action doesnt use the stack.

So when a Saga's final chapter ability triggers, the saga isn't sacrificed until after that chapter ability is no longer on the stack. During this time, you would have priority to use any instant-speed spells and/or abilities to manipulate your Saga, while leaving the chapter ability completely unaffected on the stack.

Rescue it, Sentinel of the Pearl Trident, etc. You can even sacrifice it to an Auratog or what have you before it forces you to sacrifice itself.
