Regarding Hornet Nest

I'm not quite sure how Hornet Nest works in regards to damage taken and was hoping for some clarification. Say, hypothetically, someone swings in with a Polukranos, World Eater and I block with the nest. Do I get five 1/1s since that's how much damage can be done, or just two since that's the amount of damage the Hornet Nest can take?

It depends on whether or not the attacking creature has Trample. If Hornet Nest were to block a non-monstrous Polukranos, World Eater , then yes, you would get five 1/1's because they have to assign all of the five damage, and there isn't another target to assign it to.
If the attacking creature did have trample, then they would be able to just assign lethal (2 damage) to the Hornet Nest , and then assign the rest to the player.

Since Polukranos, World Eater lacks trample, it will deal 5 damage to Hornet Nest and you will get 5 1/1s. If it did have trample, say from Nylea, God of the Hunt , it would deal 2 damage to Nest and 3 to you, giving you 2 1/1s.
