Question about protection and blocking?

Asked by SerTimtheJailer 9 years ago

So I know if you have a creature and its protected from a color, creatures of that color cant block it. Ok so heres my question and I wanna know how this would play out. Say I have a white creature out, I decalre my attack, then my opponent declares a red blocker, In response I play Gods Willing and choose protection from red. Since he declared his blocker can he still block it or because I have that protection now, will he no longer be able to block me?

If he already declared blockers, it is still blocked. However, no damage is dealt to the creature with protection.

Since you cast God's willing after he declared his blocker, your creature is blocked. Once you go to the declare blockers phase, you can no longer react before blocks are made, and once a creature is blocked, unless it somehow gains trample, it will remain blocked through that combat phase, regardless of what happens to the blocking creature. This may have worked out to your advantage though, because when you gave your creature pro-Red, it could not be dealt damage by that blocking creature until end of turn.
