Maralen of the Mornsong and Omen Machine

Asked by daken96 9 years ago

So how exactly would Maralen of the Mornsong and Omen Machine work if both are on the battlefield? Would you search your library for a card? Or exile the top card? Or both? Or would the world just end? Also, if both are activated, does that mean one card is played on the battlefield and the other is placed in your hand? If so, what order does it go in?

They both trigger in your draw step. You get to choose which one goes on the stack first (this one resolves last). This means that the trigger of your choice happens first, then the other one. There is no interaction between the two cards in this sense.

To clarify:
Eg. you could choose to

A) lose 3 life, search your library, put a card in your hand and shuffle , then exile the top card and play it.
OR to
B) exile the top card and play it, then lose 3 life, search your library, put a card in your hand and shuffle.

Note that nothing here is activated. Only activated abilities can be activated. Both of these cards have a static ability and a triggered ability, the latter of which triggers.

KrosanTusker is correct. Just to give an explanation behind that answer, if you have two or more triggered abilities (beginning with "when," "whenever," or "at") that would trigger at the same time, you choose the order they would go on the stack. The one you place on the stack second happens first, all its effects resolve, then the next ability goes off. In this case, those two choices are outlined in his answer.

So would it be both or would I have to choose to either tutor and put in hand -or- exile and play?

Both. You do both, one after the other.
