Last Rites + Call to the Netherworld + Creature

If I cast Last Rites and discard Call to the Netherworld and a black creature can I use the Madness (0) on Call to the Netherworld to bring back the creature I sacrificed along with it?

Yes. The part of the Madness ability that lets you cast the discarded spell is a triggered ability. What happens is this:

  • you discard Call to the Netherworld and a black creature
  • the creature is put into your graveyard, Call is exiled
  • the triggered ability of Madness is put onto the stack
  • it resolves, you decide to cast Call from exile. As the black creature is in your graveyard, you can target it.

702.34a Madness is a keyword that represents two abilities. The first is a static ability that functions while the card with madness is in a players hand. The second is a triggered ability that functions when the first ability is applied. Madness [cost] means "If a player would discard this card, that player discards it, but exiles it instead of putting it into his or her graveyard" and "When this card is exiled this way, its owner may cast it by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost. If that player doesnt, he or she puts this card into his or her graveyard."
