I have a Cloudfin Raptor in play with three +1/+1 counters. I play a Murkfiend Liege. Does the Raptor get another counter?

The Liege is big enough to give a counter, but as soon as the Liege comes into play, it raises the Raptor's P/T to 4/5, putting it out of range to get a counter. So the question is which happens first? Is it my choice?

There is never a time that Murkfiend Liege is on the battlefield and Cloudfin Raptor is not a 4/5. So evolve will not trigger.
