How to decide triggers?

Asked by mykei93 9 years ago

I attack with a Prophetic Flamespeaker and target it with Warriors' Lesson . Do I draw a card first or exile the top card first? Both will happen upon first strike and normal combat damage so can i switch the order between each strike? ie draw, exile, exile, draw

Both abilities will trigger at the same time (when combat damage is dealt), so because you control both of them, you get to choose the order to put them on the stack at first strike damage, and again at regular combat damage.

I may be corrected on this, but I don't believe the abilities will actually resolve until after all combat damage is dealt (both first strike and regular damage). If someone can shed more light on this, please do so.

@PhilJol: The first part of your answer is correct. However, first strike and double strike are handled in a separate combat damage step. The triggered abilities will be handled during the combat damage step in which they were created, so the first two triggers will resolve before you move to the second combat damage step and get your regular damage and second set of triggers.

@PhilJol EpochalyptikLets say this happens and the card revealed and drawn are both instant pump spells, ie Giant Growth etc, Could i play them before the normal combat damage hits?

Yes. Players have to pass priority in succession to progress from the first combat damage step to the second. That means they have an opportunity to cast spells and activate abilities.
