Help! Archeomancer x Clone legion X insidious Will rulings

Asked by dalinius97 4 years ago

Hello, was play testing a deck I created and during a combo I got confused on how to proceed. I got a bunch of creatures onto my field with living end, Archeomancer and Mmnemonic wall were part of the creatures that hit the field, which let me return Clone Legion and Insidious Will to my hand. I went to cast clone legion, and in response used the copy effect from Will. Now the ruling for spells is:

608.2k As the final part of an instant or sorcery spell‘s resolution, the spell is put into its owner‘s graveyard. As the final part of an ability‘s resolution, the ability is removed from the stack and ceases to exist.

Now for Insidious will, to my knowledge this spell resolves first, and all it does is add another Clone legion to the stack, The card itself goes to the GY. Now the copy of the clone legion goes off first, because first in, last out. the Orig Clone legion is still on the stack, and has not been resolved. so it has not hit the GY. All my creatures are copied. giving me 2 more ETB Archeomancer effects. I therefore am able to take back Insidious Will. I am pretty sure I am unable to target the clone legion on the stack still with the returned Insidious will, but I could be wrong, and then If I had Infinite mana, I could infinitely cast Insidious will targeting clone legion if the copied Clone legion was creating an Archeomancer. Assuming I am correct and I cannot do that. The Original Clone legion resolves. And this is were I got confused. All the creatures ETB, All their ETB effects hit the stack. Once the creatures have ETB'd, does clone legion fully resolve and hit the gy so I can use the Archeomancer ETB to take it back? Or do the creatures need to finish their ETB effects before Clone legion is officially resolved, and then it hits the GY? Please help, and correct me if anything here is incorrect.

So the situation is this you cast Clone Legion hold priority and cast Insidious Will . You choose to copy clone legion. So now its 2 instances of clone legion on the stack. First to resolve is the copy (insidious will), it copies your board and goes to the GY because it resolved. Your ETBs hit the stack after insidious will resolves and therefor you can target it with your new Mnemonic Wall s ETB. Insidious will returns to your hand and the original Clone legion is still on the stack. You can now hold priority to cast your Insidious will to copy the clone legion again. With infinite mana you get infinite board.

Now for the other question. You choose to resolve your original Clone legion. Same thing happens here. When you resolve the spell it hits the GY and after that your ETBs hit the stack. Clone legion is therefor in the GY when Mnemonic Wall enters, and can be targeted and returned to your hand.

I hope this made sense.
