Follow up question: Mistcutter Hydra and "X"

Could I cast Mistcutter Hydra by only tapping for the necessary green? Specifically can I leave X as 0, theoretically summoning but destroying the creature immediately?

Unless the spell specifies otherwise, you can always choose 0 as a value for X. You can cast Mistcutter Hydra for if you want it to end up in your graveyard. You can even do this when you have a discount on the spell like Rhonas's Monument where paying could result in it entering with a counter, again if you really want it in your grave.
