Does the token created by raptor hatchling have summoning sickness?

Asked by Nuubi 5 years ago

So if my opponent has Raptor Hatchling and It’s my turn, I attack it and kill it, #1 does the toke creature have summoning sickness, like can he use it his turn coming up or does he have to wait as though he summoned on his turn and can’t use it till the next turn? #2 if I fataly damage it and kill it does he get the token at all? I tried to read the official ruling but it seemed to contradict itself.

the gather ruling does not contradict itself. it states "If lethal damage is dealt to a creature with an enrage ability, that ability triggers." if the token is created on your turn, the opponent can use it during their turn. Summoning sickness is an informal term for the rule that a creature cannot attack or use activated abilities either with the tap or untap symbol if it has not been continuously controlled by a player since the beginning of that player's most recent turn. so if the token is created during your turn, then when the opponent starts their next turn, they will have continuously controlled it since the beginning of their most recent turn

The token will have summoning sickness, but it wears off at the beginning of their turn. So he will be able to attack on their next turn.

The ferocious ability will trigger even if lethal damage is dealt. Once an ability triggers it exists independently of its source, so even though most of the time Raptor Hatchling will die from any amount of damage, it will always make the token.
