Does the Opponent Gain or Lose Life?

Asked by SirFowler 9 years ago

I was wondering about the cards Wall of Shards and Rain of Gore. Does the opponent gain or lose life? Or is it like a time stamp order?

A cumulative upkeep ability gives you the option of paying a cost. In this case, Wall of Shards gives you the option of having an opponent gain 1 life for each age counter on Wall of Shards. You choose to pay the cost or not.

If you do, Rain of Gore's replacement effect alters the event to cause that opponent to lose that life instead. The cost is still considered paid.

Wait, scratch that. Rain of Gore's ability only applies to spells and abilities that would cause their own controllers to gain life. It doesn't work.

So the more age counters on the wall, the more life they lose? I'm sorry, but the way you worded it still has me a bit confused.
