Does Grazilaxx trigger for each player hit in a EDH game

Asked by Chaospyke 2 years ago

If I control Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar and then deal combat damage to each of my opponents, do I draw damage for each player hit?

Please include relevant rules. Store owner is saying it only triggers once for all players hit.

because it says "one or more", it doesn't matter how many creatures or how many players. damage is all dealt simultaneously, and the ability triggers once.

Reading the card explains the card: The number of creatures hitting doesn't matter. The number of players hit does. Here are rulings from both Pyrewild Shaman and Storm the Vault  Flip, which have the same trigger condition as Grazilaxx ("Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player..."):

If creatures you control deal combat damage to more than one player at the same time (perhaps because it’s a multiplayer game), Pyrewild Shaman’s ability will trigger once for each of those players. However, only the first such ability that you pay for will return Pyrewild Shaman to your hand. Even if it’s put back into your graveyard before the other abilities resolve, it’s considered a different Pyrewild Shaman than the one whose ability triggered. (2017-03-14)

Storm the Vault’s first ability can trigger more than once in a turn if creatures you control deal combat damage at different times in a turn (most likely because one or more has first strike) or if creatures you control deal combat damage to more than one player at once. (2018-01-19)

Does this help you?
