Cruel Sadist Lifelink?

Cruel Sadist + Eternal Thirst .

Would the first ability that says "pay life" activate lifelink

adding that lost 1 life back after use?

Though damage causes loss of life, paying life and losing life are not damage. A Cruel Sadist with lifelink would not gain life through using its first ability. It would gain life from the damage dealt from its second ability, however.

Note that lifelink is not activated. Only activated abilities can be activated. Lifelink is a static ability that applies to all damage dealt by the source.
