Crewing End of Turn

Asked by PotatoeWizard 7 years ago

So, I have a vehicle, say an Aethersphere Harvester, and a creature to crew it. If I crew it on an end step, say my opponent's, will it stay a creature through my turn so I won't have to crew it on my turn?

I assume so, since the classic end step Flickerwisp will take away a permanent until the next end step.

No. The difference between Flickerwisp and the crew ability is that Flickerwisp triggers "at the beginning of the next end step" whereas crewing lasts "until end of turn". The ending phase has two steps: the end step and the cleanup step. The end step is where abilities like Flickerwisp's trigger but the cleanup step is where "until end of turn" abilities" expire and you don't get priority to be able to crew during that step. The relevant rule:

"513.2. If a permanent with an ability that triggers "at the beginning of the end step" enters the battlefield during this step, that ability wont trigger until the next turns end step. Likewise, if a delayed triggered ability that triggers "at the beginning of the next end step" is created during this step, that ability wont trigger until the next turns end step. In other words, the step doesnt "back up" so those abilities can go on the stack. This rule applies only to triggered abilities; it doesnt apply to continuous effects whose durations say "until end of turn" or "this turn." (See rule 514, "Cleanup Step.")"
