Rules state that counterspell removes it from the stack

The people I play with think that casting triggers resolve

This is true. Whenever a counterspell resolves, the countered spell or spells are placed into their owners' graveyards. This does not remove triggered abilities that trigger from casting the spell, which is what I assume this question is asking. When an ability is put on the stack, it exists independently of its source.

This response applies to both Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Kozilek, the Great Distortion.

rule #701.5a states to counter a spell or ability means to cancel it,removing it from the stack. It doesn't resolve and none of it's effects occur. a countered spell is put into its owners graveyard.

When it talks about the effects of the spell, it is referring to any effects that would occur were it to resolve.

The rule I referenced earlier is the following:
112.7a Once activated or triggered, an ability exists on the stack independently of its source.Destruction or removal of the source after that time wont affect the ability. Note that someabilities cause a source to do something (for example, Prodigal Pyromancer deals 1 damage totarget creature or player) rather than the ability doing anything directly. In these cases, anyactivated or triggered ability that references information about the source because the effectneeds to be divided checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, itwill check that information when it resolves. In both instances, if the source is no longer in thezone its expected to be in at that time, its last known information is used. The source can stillperform the action even though it no longer exists

when casting either one, 2 things go on the stack. Kozelik, and it's cast trigger. counterspell can only counter Kozelik bc that is the only spell on the stack, the other is a triggered ability which resolves independent of its source. so even if Kozelik gets counted, it's triggered cast ability still resoves
