Combat phase stack and priority

Asked by XTrinX 9 years ago

My opponent has 2 Scarblade Elite on the battlefield, one of them with two +1/+1 counters on it. I attack with Spellbreaker Behemoth . He blocks him with both his Scarblade Elite s. I kill the one without the +1/+1 counters with Lightning Strike , which resolves and the creature is put into graveyard (it's the only creature in his graveyard now); the stack is now empty. Can he then activate the ability of the other blocking Scarblade Elite and kill the Spellbreaker Behemoth that way?

Yes. Remember that the game only progresses to the next step or phase when all players pass priority in succession. Even if every object on the stack resolves, players still need to pass over an empty stack in order to advance the game to the next step or phase. Therefore, your opponent has an opportunity to activate the remaining Scarblade Elite 's ability before the game moves to the combat damage step.
