Can you target Epic Experiment with a spell it hit?

Asked by CkajLanoa 7 years ago

Stupid question: if I cast Epic Experiment and off of it get a Reverberate, can I target Epic Experiment with the Reverberate to get another Epic Experiment?

You can, but nothing will happen.

Epic Experiment lets you cast the spells as part of its resolution. However, the free spells don't begin to resolve until after Epic Experiment finishes resolving. So while it's a legal target while you're casting the free spells, by the time they go to resolve, their target will be in the graveyard and will no longer be a legal target. Any spells cast with the Experiment that were targeting it will be countered and will not resolve.

A better option here would be to cast Reverberate after casting another spell off of the Experiment, copying that one instead.
