Can Expansion Copy Replicate?

If a player casts the replicate half of Repudiate / Replicate, can they copy that spell with the expansion half of Expansion / Explosion? I would like to imagine so, since a split card has only the characteristics of the chosen half when it is cast.

Gidgetimer, thank you very much; I did suspect that, but I wished to be absolutely certain, since I have both of those cards in a deck of mine, and I am hoping to combine them as I mentioned, here.

You answered your own question in the question. Split cards only have the characteristics of the half being cast while on the stack. Therefore; Replicate of Repudiate / Replicate is a 3 mana sorcery and is a valid target for Expansion of Expansion / Explosion.
708.3b While on the stack, only the characteristics of the half being cast exist. The other half’s characteristics are treated as though they didn’t exist.
