Can Erebos, God of the Dead's draw ability be used on an opponent?

My friend wants to know if erebos' ability can be used to make an opponent lose life.

What Epochalyptik said. If Erebos's activated ability was intended to allow you to force an opponent to draw cards, it would read "
, Pay 2 life: target player draws a card"
The life loss would still be your own though.

No for four reasons:
First, the life loss isn't an effect of the ability. You pay life to activate the ability, and the effect is that you draw a card.
Second, "you" in the text of an object always refers to that object's controller. The ability will always cause its controller to draw a card.
Third, you can't force an opponent to activate an ability.
Fourth, players can't activate abilities of objects they don't control unless otherwise specified (see Lethal Vapors).
