Brain Maggot and Hero's Downfall, does maggot's ability go on the stack?
Asked by WizardInTheWoods 9 years ago
My opponent plays Brain Maggot . My hand consists of one card: Hero's Downfall . I know I cannot target the maggot while it is on the stack, as it is not a creature yet, but once it hits the battlefield, do I show my hand, or can I cast Hero's Downfall targeting the Brain Maggot before showing my hand?

Same scenario, but I have three other cards in hand. Am I right in assuming that they get to look at my hand, but not exile anything from it?

Yes. The ability defines a duration for the exile effect, but the effect has ended before it was created, so the effect is never applied. Always check Gatherer before asking a question.

Brain Maggot 's ability is a triggered ability, When Brain Maggot enters the battlefield, the ability triggers and goes onto the stack. This happens before players get priority; you can't preempt it. You can respond by casting Hero's Downfall , but Brain Maggot 's ability will still resolve afterward. Not that it will really matter; you'll have an empty hand at that point.
