Blood Bairn + Reassembling Skeleton and the Stack

Asked by krova 10 years ago

So I have a Blood Bairn and a Reassembling Skeleton on the battlefield and I'm attacking with the first.

Suppose I have an infinite amount of mana available, can i sacrifice the skeleton more than once during the attack phase? If so how does the stack look like in this example?

Spells and abilities on the stack resolve one at a time, and the game won't move on to the next step or phase unless all players pass over an empty stack. An activated ability can be activated whenever you're able to pay the cost (unless some effect specifically puts restrictions on its use).

Blood Bairn is attacking. You can sacrifice Reassembling Skeleton to give Bairn +2/+2. Instead of passing after Bairn's ability resolves, you can activate the Skeleton's ability. Instead of passing after the Skeleton's ability resolves, you can activate Blood Bairn. Keep going until you either have to stop or choose to stop.

From the Competetive Rulings:

405.5. When all players pass in succession, the top (last-added) spell or ability on the stack resolves. If the stack is empty when all players pass, the current step or phase ends and the next begins.

So If the stack is empty (and that happens after resolving all abilities/spells, and players have passed the priority) does the game move automatiacly to the next phase/step or do they have to pass again?

Yes - once both players pass (i.e. decline to play spells or abilities) the next step/phase happens.

That said, in your case, you would NOT pass - you'd trigger the skeleton's ability, wait for it to resolve via the stack, then re-trigger Blood Bairn again via the stack. Each loop through the stack will be empty TWICE, but you shouldn't pass until you wanted to stop.
