blocked double-striker losing trample after first damage step

Asked by Shivan21 4 years ago

So my opponent is attacking me with a Khenra Charioteer and a Samut, Voice of Dissent which now has trample in addition to double-strike. I block Khenra Charioteer with a 3 powered first strike creature and Samut, Voice of Dissent with a 2/2 bear. So after the first damage step Khenra Charioteer dies, I receive 1 damage from Samut, Voice of Dissent trample but it then loses trample going into the second damage step. Do I receive an additional 3 damage from Samut, Voice of Dissent or does it count as blocked with no trample? Thanks!

You would not take the additional 3 damage.

Once a creature becomes blocked, they don't become unblocked unless a game effect explicitly says so. Even though the bear that blocked Samut, Voice of Dissent dies during the first strike damage step, Samut is still considered blocked for the regular combat damage step. As Samut no longer has trample due to Khenra Charioteer dying in the first strike damage step, Samut deals no damage in the regular combat damage step due to being blocked.
