Awakener Druid + Life and Limb

Asked by bjb119 10 years ago

What happens if I have an Awakener Druid and Life and Limb in play? For instance, if I play Awakener Druid on turn 3 and then Life and Limb on turn 4, will that revert the 4/5 forest creature created by Awakener Druid into a 1/1 creature?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the layer system is at play here. Pretty much the most recent spell/effect is the one that applies. Awakener Druid would cause the Forest to become a 4/5 creature and then Life and Limb would cause it to become a 1/1 creature. That particular forest would still be a treefolk, so anything benefiting from it being a treefolk would still apply.

It's also worth noting that if Life and Limb leaves the battlefield, the treefolk forest would revert back to it's 4/5 p/t.

This question has to do with Layers, which can sometimes be very complicated. Fortunately this one is simple. If you want to read all about them, you can do so here.

When applying continuous effects, generally the most recent ones will overwrite older ones. Since Life and Limb 's effect is the most recent, it will overwrite Awakener Druid 's. The forest will be a 1/1.

I think this has to do with timestamps, not layers. Although I think they're both rule 613.

@Matsi883: The reason timestamps are used is because there are multiple effects trying to apply in the same layer. It's both.
