a quick question about reknown.

hi im just curious if i place a +1/+1 counter on a creature with reknown say with Power Conduit does it automatically become reknown or does it have to do the damage as well in order to trigger the effect?? thanks in advance.
thanks for the fast reply, would you also happen to know if Monstrosity manifests the same way, can i just place the appropriate number of counters onto the creature to activate the ability instead of paying the mana cost?

Monstrous and renown work the same way, it''s a state independent of the counters. Adding counters won't turn it on, and removing them won't turn it off.

Unfortunately it doesn't become renowned just from having a counter. You'll notice that when any creature with Renown deals combat damage to a player, two things happen - it gets a counter and becomes renowned. Ergo, just having a counter from another source doesn't mean it becomes renowned at the same time.
