Do you think Boros Reckoner is going to keep rising in price ?

In the prerelease I participated, I was 3rd and got my booster packs, and managed to get a Boros Reckoner foil

I was about to trade it, but then watched how the thing doubled its price, and then again raised 5 bucks more

Is it good to trade it now or hold it ?

It's like playng stocks - you can never be sure.

The immediate increase in price is due to a Boros heavy meta probably. Price will further fluctuate with its use in professional tournaments. Given that it's among the best 3 drops for a Boros deck then I, personally, am guessing yes. I think it'll rise by another $5 or so and then stabilise.

However you can only guess at the moment so you can never be sure. I think it's fairly safe to say that its price won't dramatically decrease. I'm holding my playset for a month or so before I make a decision but I check the price often on the stores I use and ebay so if anything happened I'd be able to sell quick.

I ask because I held Jace, Architect of Thought for too long and dropped dramatically in price, now I dont want to commit the same mistake

I don't think it'll drop suddenly. Not in the short term. I wouldn't hold it for longer than month or two. Things don't usually drop in price overnight, it takes time. Be proactive and check often, you'll be fine - definitely for the short term.

Its crazy how much he is now but i agree with what he said, if you do plan on selling it just wait until the next 2 or 3 SCG opens and that should tell you if he is gonna drop or lower depending on how much he is played in this tournaments

Remember though, he needs to be relevant too right? That affects the price. Just because the pro uses it will the price stay high if he completely has no effect on the game? This is as much a question as a caution

Its price really depends on the PT this weekend. If Boros Reckoner is in all of the top decks, it'll go up, if it isn't played, it'll go down. Although, a large part of the price is the fact that not many have been opened yet. Assuming it is played, it will see a decent spike followed by a downward trend as more are opened. I think.

@capriom85: What the pros play determines the prices. They determine and create the demand (both by what they play, and what non-pros buy because they see a pro playing with it).

The other, minor part of the price is the supply, which is determined by how recently the set has been released (just released, there aren't as many cards in circulation), if the set makes a good limited format (bad limited results in less packs opened), and printing discrepancies (to a very minor extent).

OT: Seeing as a regular Boros Reckoner is at ~25, I don't think it will go much higher. MAYBE 30, 35 or so. It's a judgement call, but now wouldn't be a horrible time to sell.

Pros playing him will absolutely raise the price. I don't know about you, but when Star City or Pro Tour release deck lists, the people around here who net deck a lot will go right out to the LGS and straight up buy every card in the top, winning deck. Since there are plenty of net deckers to fuel this sudden demand, the price will suddenly spike to take advantage of people flocking to the LGSes with singles or online stores to get these cards.

@capriom85: If the pros play a card, that's a pretty good indication that the card is still relevant. Pros don't top-8 with dead cards in their decks.

Magic economics are a fickle beast. My advice (note that I've speculated my way into hundreds of dollars in profit) is to be careful on Boros Reckoner . Certainly don't start picking them up at $30 apiece. I think the card has reached a bit of a peak for now. It blew away the competition partly because people weren't expecting it to be so prevalent and so powerful. Now that it's on everyone's radar, people are working on ways to combat it. The price spike was due to speculators hunting down so many copies after tournament results were published. Supply was nonexistent when everyone else wanted to get in on the trend.

Now, many speculators will be releasing their stocks into the market, and at the same time players will be opening more and more packs of GTC. This increase in supply will lead to a gradual decline in price for Boros Reckoner . Its value won't evaporate, and it will likely command a minimum price of $20-25 for a while, but I don't think it's going to shoot up again. At most, it will gain another $5 or so as the meta shifts to accommodate and answer it, but now is not the time to start snapping them up in hopes of a major financial windfall.

long term? I think he'll definitly drop. He's not going to stay at $25 as long as thragtusk did.

in the short term? I've never seen a rare go above $25, I would be surprised if he went up further.

The thing is He's riding a lot of hype from early successes, and people are going to try to get theirs now. I don't think he'll stay there.
