Trying to Break Into Modern

Modern Deck Help forum

Hey, I started playing Magic last November and want to start in on Modern so I have at least one deck I can consistently play regardless of set rotation.

I'm a bit new and wanted to ask about the best deck to break into the format with. I'd like to spend no more than $200, but ideally stay somewhere within the $50 range, at least on my first deck.

I've been looking at Mono U Tron, G/W Hexproof Auras, and Various Infect combinations as options. Are there any other builds that I might like to look at? Of the three I listed, which is probably the best within my budget constraints? Thanks for the help in advance.

Not even sure what you did there.... o.o

Responding directly to OP, UTron is fun and cheap. If you like control and fatties then it's a great deck. It can be built for less than $100, with room for improvement.

Neither am I actually. I have a talent for confusing things it seems. And yeah, we have a couple of users who could help with UTron as well.

Aha, I did so many stupid things in my League match today against KrosanTusker. Apparently g looks at the top card in Untap? I drew 57 cards instead of 7 for my opening hand.......

I play UTron actually, but there are people far more knowledgeable about it than I. I can link my list if it's wanted.

If it makes you feel better, I played pretty badly during one of my league matches earlier as well. And isn't ohthenoises good at UTron?

Yea, OTN is the guy to turn to when it comes to UTron.

Is UTron really that cheap? How cheap is GRTron?

Grove of the Burnwillows makes g/r Tron a lot more expensive.

UTron needs the lands, Plat Angel (7) and a pair of Wurmcoils (10 ea) as the pricey parts.

GR needs 4x Karn, Emrakul, OStones, etc.

Edit: UTron can use Ugin, but not needed. Can use Snappy, but not crucial either. Grove is a lot too, as xzz said. Sorry for a lack of linking, too lazy right now and on my phone.

Do you have a good UTron list I can see? I didn't know it was that cheap, can you point me to a cheap list?

Perhaps Ohthenoises could share his list?

Thanks a lot for the help so far, everyone. I look into other deck lists and see if I can't concoct something if I can't find enough U Tron budget options.
