Planeswalking with stuff, animals

Has there ever been firm rules on what a planeswalker can planeswalk with? It's pretty clear they don't need to invest in new clothes every time they go somewhere, but they can't (or won't?) take other people with them. Let's say a bug flies into Nissa's hair as she planeswalks. Let's also say she's carrying around a bug in a jar for some reason. Would either bug travel with her? If Garruk dropped his axe and helmet before 'walking, would they get left behind?

I believe walkers need to carry the things they want to have with them, and that those things need to be inanimate in order to travel safely.

asasinater13 is right post-mending. Pre-mending walkers were only bound by their imagination.

Living objects without the planeswalker spark can not survive in the blind eternities (space on between planes).

Thanks, everyone. Good to know. Just out of curiosity, can anyone provide a source for this? In one of the books or something?

The best post-mending examples of this I can think of would be some of the planeswalkers with their weapons like you said: Liliana and the Chain Veil, Kiora and Thassa's bident. Also, in the recent Magic Story, Dovin Baan had to guide Nissa to Kaladesh through the Blind Eternities, show her the way, instead of just Planeswalking there while holding her hand or something. The same seemed to be the case with Jace showing the Gatewatch (Chandra, Nissa, and Gideon) how to get to Innistrad. Although it is not directly stated, it appears planeswalkers cannot even planeswalk bringing another planeswalker with them (not meaning following them). This is just my guess correct me if I am wrong :)

So wait. All Koth had to do to beat Phyrexia was grab Elesh Norn and jump? That's quite a power.

He couldn't bring her to the blind eternities in the first place.

So any living thing that a walker grabs, they can't transport?

October 30, 2016 3:25 p.m.

Yeah. Now this does bring up the question of essential bacteria and such but that begs the question what is a single living entity and cells and whatnot so let's just say yes.

It is also worth noting that post-mending, planeswalkers need lots of concentration to planeswalk. Sorin is stuck in that rock on Innistrad because the pain of his body pierced by the stone keeps him from concentrating.

It also takes time get off the plane. For example, Garruk was able to kill an ice walker on shandalar(?) several seconds after it started the process of leaving.

SSJ_Weegee I am like 90% sure it was Shandalar.

Also thanks for noting post-mending, although implied I think it's an inportsnt distinction for skme who may not be too familiar with the lore.

They can wither away and die too if they don't drink enough blood :) Bye, bye Sorin

Homura_Akemi, I doubt that WotC shall kill of a popular character in such an anticlimactic manner. If they were planning to kill him, they would have done so, but them leaving his fate ambiguous indicates to me that they plan to have him return, at some point.

DemonDragonJ That ambiguity always annoys me! I loved Elspeth and Wizards left it so she could possibly be returned from the underworld as, well, one of the Returned. I would hate for that to happen because Elspeth was the bomb. I'm fine with Sorin's end although it seems like he'll kick it pretty soon unless someone is (super unlikely) feeding him blood.
