Sell or Keep: Tarmogoyf and Karn Liberated

Hi Tappedout,

At the MM2 release draft last night I pulled both a Tarmogoyf and a Karn Liberated. I am in the process of building some new decks and I though it might be a good idea to try and sell these cards. However, I don't know if now is the right time or not? Advice?

Both of them are good in multiples. Karn Liberated is awesome in tron builds and Tarmogoyf in anything with . So unless you plan on getting more of them, offload them. Karn could rise up back to 40-45 dollars in a few months.

I guess it depends on how much good one of those cards will do you. A singleton in most decks is not worth an addition unless it is a really powerful singleton. Both of these cards are conceivably finishers, but need a deck built around them to succeed. If you play a lot of EDH, then one is all you will need. So it depends on your playing style, your needs, and everything else.

Honestly, I collect Planeswalkers and I am wanting Karn Liberated for my Dragonwalkers deck, so I'd keep him. But the Tarmogoyf, I'd sell/trade away for value.

Hey I agree with everyone else the tarmo should probably be sold for value since you tend to need more for it to be useful. Same with the karn.....speaking of karn lol I am in the need of more so if you would like to trade or sell or mix let me know and lets see if we can make a deal. Thanks!

Tarmagoyfs are totally worth keeping if you plan on playing modern in some green color. It'll cost you to pick up the rest but this is the best time to do it and it will definitely cost you more to pick it up later. I think Karn has a much wider range of appeal if you're into that. As previously mentioned, Karn is great in EDH. Goyf sucks in EDH.

Thanks for all the comments! I currently play mono red in modern, so I don't think goyf will be very helpful in that area :). My plan at this moment is to sell goyf and "market" karn (I'll see if people at my LGS want him and have the goods to trade for him). If I can't trade Karn, I will put him in one of my EDH decks.

If you sell the goyf you're just losing money. It will only go up in value. You'll regret it someday. I sold my MM1 Tarmogoyf right after the set came out for $125, then it shot up to $200 within a year. It's a cursed card.
