Foil Liliana of the Veil

Back when Innistrad was new I went out and bought some packs. I fulled a foil Liliana of the Veil and have watched it do nothing but go up and up ever since I discovered it was worth a lot (back when it was ~$100). I am not sure if it will increase much more (my research says the range of $250-300 right now) and I would like to know others' opinions on two related subjects:

1) Is it likely to increase in price much more? Is there any reason to suspect either a jump up or down in price?

2) I am looking to unload it (if I determine its not likely to jump up) and am wondering what the best way to try to get as much value out of it as possible is. I would prefer to avoid eBay-type services.

Thanks for the help!

I mean, it has no reason to drop, period. So it can only increase as rarity increases (aka, time passing and copies find permanent homes/destruction). As far as getting the most out of it, Peer to Peer has to be the best way. Stores will give you a large amount, but not full value, where you can get nearly full value by selling it on eBay

Im holding on to mine for a very long time. I see this card hitting 600-800$ in the next 5 years. It sees play in a ton of decks, and is super powerful. JtMS status, but not ban worthy, being a 3 drop and entering with 3 loyalty.

Still should get you a nice chunk of cash if you were to sell it now.

  1. She has been hanging steady as a foil in the $275 range for a while now. Because of how much and the formats she sees play in, most likely she will be staying around that price for a long while. Where she is powerful, JtMS is more so just due to his abilities to draw cards, bounce permanents and control the entire game. Liliana can be dealt with fairly easily if your opponent has 2 creatures out he minus will only take out one and her plus in a situation where your opponent has something proactive to do will not make much of a difference.
  2. In order to get the price you want, craigslist or someone who really wants a foil one would be your best option. Getting the full "value" for a card is something only stores can really do. When it comes down to a one on one that is where the price varies. Within the game card values are a good point to look at when trading but in reality, paying full price for a card rarely happens unless buying from a retailer such as your LGS or Star City Games' website.

If you're willing to do a bit of negotiation I may be willing to purchase it from you. Thanks and have a great day

personally i would move it now, wizards has already tried to reprint her once in m15 but was deemed to powerful for standard with thoughtseize/wastenot (which is much better when you have a repeatable discard spell). i see a strong possibility of her either being reprinted in a MM2/summer release set next year or in M16 when thoughtseize is closer to rotating

very strong speculation lili is going to see a reprint in MM2 with new art. additionally lili was going to be reprinted in m15 and they changed it to vess b/c OTV was too strong.

take that for what you will. no idea what to do with your lili

Well if its reprinted with new art, that wont affect the old price as much. It'll be a big collector's item as well due to the popularity of the card card artwork (most sexualized character with the most fanservicy artwork, and its SHINY) at least thats my take on it

If you have a use for it in legacy or modern, use double sleeves and show that baby off. If not, part with it and speculate on other things that are useful, or build another deck you want to.

It has nowhere to go but up, unless it ever sees a reprint. If she's reprinted you can expect her price to drop dramatically (but I don't see that happening outside of a Modern Masters-esque set).

If you go by mtggoldfish.com you will notice that a foil Lili of the veil has been on a slight decline.

My thoughts are, if you paid $3-$5 for a pack and got yourself a $250 card that you don't use, don't worry about getting every single penny out of it. Even if you trade it now, and the card goes up to $300-$350 in the future, you got it for free. It's not like you paid $200 for it and want to get value. Value is already there. If you don't have the need for the $$ hold on to it, it will always be worth something as it's played in all formats it's legal in. If you want that extra $$ to build yourself the deck you want, then sell it to someone who is willing to give you the cash for it.

id just hang onto it.. if you dont need the money right away and you have a safe place for it, just keep it for a few years. Theres a good chance that itll never be reprinted and being that it is such a good card and very rare, you may see the value of it it go up quite a bit. The trade value of a card like that is wild, id bet you could probably get $400 in cards for it. Or see about trading for a graded beta or something more likely to have antique value
