8-Rack in 2024?!? —Feb. 11, 2024
Last FNM I went 3-1 with 8-Rack! Winning against Yawgmoth, Amulet Titan, and Shamans, losing a match to Amulet Titan (due to the Bitter Triumphs not arriving in the mail in time and being forced to run a combination of Sheoldred's Edict and Bloodchief's Thirst instead which couldn't target the correct things at the right time). Good enough for 2nd place and tripling up my entry fee in store credit.
When this deck draws well, it feels unbeatable. When you get screwed or flooded, it feels bad to lose. However, I've been happy with this new version's performance after seeing a list do well online. The new spell Bitter Triumph gave this deck better MD answers to planeswalkers and large creatures, the worst of which is probably Wrenn and Six. With all the Ragavans and Bowmasters running around, funeral charm is a flexable (and good) card to have back in the MD again. Leyline of Sanctity is at an all-time low right now, and people have been trimming on Veil of Summers in favor of SB slots that beat the other top decks that mostly don't run Thoughtseize. With the Omnath deck recently on the downswing thanks to the banning of Up the Beanstalk and Fury, this deck is prime for the meta as a scam-killer that has game against the rest of the field.
