UMA BOX TOURNAMENT —Dec. 9, 2018
Small tournament, 12 heads, top 4 split a box and then plays for the topper. I won the topper. 4 rnds cut to top 4
Rnd 1 I played against G/B 2-0. Today Strangleroot Geist wasnt shy and appeared in numbers. Having Rancor and Haste creatures was enough to fight thru removal and discard. Game 2 they literally drew all lands and i have multiple fatties on the board.
Rnd 2 I played Mardu Pyromancer and won 2-0. In game one i had double aspect for a win out of no where plus they were stuck on 2 lands making it a 1 spell turn for them which is rough but i wasnt flooded either. Game 2 they had a Y-Peezy and 5 friends with a bedlam, i neede a combination of 2 cards to win since i had a tree top and champion in play and i drew the exact 2 cards. Rather be lucky than good.
Rnd 3 I played against Mono-Green Tron and won 2-0. Usually tron can be 50/50, i do fold usually to Ugin. Not much i can do against wurmcoil except for trying to get bigger than it. But they are slow and if they stumble for at least a turn i can get the drop on them and win and it happened for 2 games.
Rnd 4 I split with my finals opponent.
Semis my buddy was my opponent but had to leave like a responsible adult and gave me the win, woot woot, free win central.
Finals I faced Elves and won 2-1. Elves isnt a deck i want to face, i want to fade it as much as possible. I dont have much against them i have to be fast and full of rancors, thats what won me the games 1 and 3 and most matches today. They didnt really know i could just blow out damage them with a 1 shot and they went in with a bad attack to not kill me giving me a turn and them thinking i couldnt kill them. Game 2 they did what elves do, spam. Game 3 they kept a 1 lander which is usually fine, but i was running fast hot and i just out paced them.
Today the deck ran hot and I drew exceptionally well. Normally i dont have such an easy time with the decks i played when luck is on your side its hard to lose. I am not saying the deck only wins because of luck, but it helps. It can be very fast and thats what gives it some game. Haste and Trample with a mix of creature protection is pretty diesel.
