Zedruu the Greathearted questions
Asked by Dvious 11 years ago
When I use the ability to give an opponent something like Steel Golem , since it is now his I'm under the assumption I can't use the ability again to bounce the Steel Golem around to my other opponents. Correct me if I'm wrong.
My next question is, if I'm using Dominus of Fealty to gain control of a permanent I had controlled to begin with (like the Steel Golem I just gave away). Will I be giving back that permanent at the end of the turn? Or does it stay as mine since I originally controlled it.
What I'm really looking for is a way to keep giving stuff I've already gave away. The Dominus of Fealty with Bazaar Trader seemed to work, I'm just looking for something faster and less expensive.
Thanks

On that first point, you're right. Zedruu the Greathearted targets an opponent and a permanent you control. If you don't currently control a permanent, you can't target it with the ability.
When the control-changing effect of Dominus of Fealty ends, the effect of Zedruu will take over again and the permanent will return to whoever you had given it to. Zedruu's control-changing effect didn't end when the Dominus took over, it just had a more recent effect put on top of it.

This is a situation where timestamps matter.
when you use Dominus of Fealty
to take control of Steel Golem
the Steel Golem
still has 2 control changing effects on it.
The Dominus of Fealty
's effect takes precedence, because it has the most recent time-stamp, but the permanent is still under the effect of Zedruu the Greathearted
's ability.
the effect of Dominus of Fealty will eventually expire, and your opponent will regain control of Steel Golem
because of this, you can use Zedru again at this point to give control of the golem to someone else. if you so choose, and it would stay with this person.

In this situation, once the owner has temporarily regained control with Dominus of Fealty , couldn't he then use Zedruu the Greathearted 's ability before EOT to give that Steel Golem to a -different- opponent?
I believe because of the very same timestamp mechanism mentioned, this new opponent would then keep the permanent (Steel Golem in this case).

Yes, that's exactly what Sam_I_am said in Post #3.

Good. Upon first read, for some reason, his fourth sentence made me think it was implying there was no stopping the return of control, which made me assume the final sentence had a typo.
I rephrased it for myself to make sure that it was the actual intended answer. Sorry if it seemed spammish. More coffee perhaps?

Zedruu the Greathearted says that target opponent gains control of a permanent you control. Once you give away that permanent, you can't keep giving it away to other people. you don't control it anymore. (you still own it)
Dominus of Fealty will always give the permanent back, regardless of who the owner is.
