Your Idea would work with forests and changelings, but not with tokens, as they cease to exist when they leave the battlefield. The question if dying changelings trigger Sacred Ground is handled in rule 603.6d. It states that abilities triggering on objects leaving the battlefield use the information from before the object left the field. Another way to make it work would be something like Conspiracy .
Here's the rules backup, with highlights added by me...
110.5f A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)
110.5g A token that has left the battlefield can't move to another zone or come back onto the battlefield. If such a token would change zones, it remains in its current zone instead. It ceases to exist the next time state-based actions are checked; see rule 704.
603.6d Normally, objects that exist immediately after an event are checked to see if the event matched any trigger conditions. Continuous effects that exist at that time are used to determine what the trigger conditions are and what the objects involved in the event look like. However, some triggered abilities must be treated specially. Leaves-the-battlefield abilities, abilities that trigger when a permanent phases out, abilities that trigger when an object that all players can see is put into a hand or library, abilities that trigger specifically when an object becomes unattached, abilities that trigger when a player loses control of an object, and abilities that trigger when a player planeswalks away from a plane will trigger based on their existence, and the appearance of objects, prior to the event rather than afterward. The game has to "look back in time" to determine if these abilities trigger.
Example: Two creatures are on the battlefield along with an artifact that has the ability "Whenever a creature dies, you gain 1 life." Someone plays a spell that destroys all artifacts, creatures, and enchantments. The artifact's ability triggers twice, even though the artifact goes to its owner's graveyard at the same time as the creatures.

keep in mind that Sacred Ground only works for spells or abilities your opponents control. If your making your lands into creatures and then they die in combat then Sacred Ground will not trigger.

It's also important to note that Sacred Ground won't interact with spells and abilities that deal damage. Destroying a creature for having marked lethal damage is a caused by a game rule, not the spell or ability that dealt the damage.

Well, here's the thing, there are no saproling type creatures, barring tokens and shapeshifters that are every type. This means that the tokens would pop when they hit the graveyard as a state-based action before Sacred Ground could return them.
When debating whether or not a shapeshifter creature would be returned by Sacred Ground I'm not sure it would since it doesn't check the creature until it's in the graveyard. This means that Sacred Ground would not recognize it as a land when it hits the graveyard. This is reinforced by the rulings on Life and Limb that show that it's effect only extends to the permanents you control on the battlefield.
