wingmate roc and mardu ascendancy
Asked by Havok.Bane 9 years ago
When you attack with Wingmate Roc and Mardu Ascendancy is on your side of the field do you gain the life from the new token?
yes.
Wingmate Roc life effect cheaks how many creatures are attacking when it resolves.
so in this case both triggers happen at the same time when u attack and you being the active player get to pick what order they go on the stack. u put roc on the stack 1st then mardu, mardu resolves giving you a token attacking then roc resolves giving you life for roc and the token attacking.
hope this helps//trowie

Yes. When Wingmate Roc attacks, it's ability goes on the stack. It also triggers Mardu Ascendancy's ability. Which goes on the stack and then puts the goblin token on the battle field after resolving which is before Wingmate Roc's ability resolves.
The Gatherer:9/20/2014 Count the number of attacking creatures when the last ability resolves, including Wingmate Roc itself if its still on the battlefield, to determine how much life you gain.

I had to change 2 diapers in the middle of typing that though, lol. So I only feel failed where I assumed the roc's ability went on first.

haha xD
yea its upto the active player what order they go on the stack when more than 1 triger happens at the same time. so its upto them if they want the 1 life from the token or not xD lol
like epoch said, it depends =P

trowie: One minor correction, when multiple things trigger at the same time they always go on the stack in APNAP order. If a player controls more than one thing that triggered at the same time that player gets to pick what order they go on the stack. So being able to stack Mardu Ascendancy trigger on top of the Wingmate Roc trigger is because they control both not because they are active player.

It depends.
When you declare Wingmate Roc as an attacker, Wingmate Roc's ability and Mardu Ascendancy's ability both trigger. You put the abilities onto the stack in the order you choose.
The smart call would be to put Wingmate Roc's ability onto the stack first, then Mardu Ascendancy's ability. Mardu Ascendancy's ability will resolve first, giving you an attacking token. Wingmate Roc's ability will then resolve, counting the number of attacking creatures you control (including the new token) and causing you to gain that much life.
